Cameras have evolved. From a cinematic perspective, the new Canon & Nikon cameras are changing both movie and video production landscape. For the better. Everyone will soon be shooting great quality HD footage from your phone and from your digital camera. But access to great cameras that are cheap doesn’t mean the end product will turn out well. I used a Nikon D300s ($1,500) to capture the opening of a new lounge in DC. The camera is a small photo camera compared to a normal video camera but its ability to capture in low light is amazing. Learn more about how to shoot good video in the Cinematography section.
I have been using Sony cameras since 1991. It started with a 8mm bought at Circuit City, then a hi-8, then a D8, then the revolutionary Sony DCR-VX1000 on the miniDV format, next was the real game changer, the Sony DCR-VX2100, the best low light camera, great for events and nightclub shoots, next was an HDV high def camrea that still shot on to miniDV tape, then came the new tapeless Sony EX-1 shooting at 1080p! And finally we have the HDSLR cameras, I have a Nikon D300S, that will merge the photo and video worlds.
